Sometimes when we are is desperation, we cry out unto the Lord for help. Psalm 46:1 says “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” God meets us there and rescues us, delivers us from our afflictions and from our enemies.
However, just like some of the Israelites in the wilderness, we then rebel against the Lord our God who saved us and turn again once more to the weak and beggarly elements of this world, our old gods, our old ways, our old habits, our old sins. This is very dishonorable to the Lord. Our Father in heaven is not a spare tire to be used when we need a helping hand and then tossed to the side when we feel our needs in our time of desperation have been met. We are commandment to love the Lord our God with our whole heart, our whole soul, and our whole mind. He’s not a part time God, He’s a full time parent, a full time Father, a full time God.
Not only is our God a mighty man of war, but He is also “the good shepherd”. At this point in your life, he was trying to lead you, as the good shepherd, back onto the narrow path that leads to life, as you follow Him. You have to understand that The Word of God uses an analogy of marriage to understand our relationship that we are to have with Jesus Christ. In that analogy, we are the bride and Jesus is the bridegroom. This is why we are to love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind. When you met your spouse or when you will meet your spouse – did you or would you marry someone who only loves you sometimes. Who only uses you when they need something. Who doesn’t love you with their whole heart as part of their heart is being taken up with the love of someone or something else? No, of course not. This is the same way with our relationship with Jesus. Think about that.
When He comes in a mighty warrior and wages war against the powers and principalities attacking you in order to save you from the seen and unseen enemies regarding your health, your relationships, your mind, your finances, whatever it is… and then you return to your old ways like a dog to vomit – it is not only like receiving a dishonorable discharge from the Lord’s army, but also very sorrowful. The Lord pulled on your heart strings. He fought as you sat still. He waged an all out war around you that you could not see, but He could. He saved you from your circumstances. and then you said, thanks, but no thanks. scripture describes this as a dog returning to its own vomit.
How can our Father in heaven be good enough to save you from your troubles, but then not good enough to lead your life? It’s like we fight and kick and scream like bratty teenagers against our parents -who know what is best for us because they know and see the danger ahead, in this case – demonic strongholds, infirmities, despair, sorrow, grief, and the second death.
We read in 1 Corinthians 5:11
But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous1 will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,2 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19–21
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Ephesians 5:5
5 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (vthat is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Revelation 22:15
15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
Romans 13:13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy.
We are given a long list of things are of the flesh and not the Spirit and that will stop us from receiving our inheritance from our Father, which is walking with Him again in heaven. He has clearly stated in His Word how we are to act and not act.
God is good all the time. Not just when we need rescue. Do you trust Him? I certainly do. How could you not trust the one who created all things – the heavens and the earth – you. Who knows what you need better than Him. You surely do not. He surely does.
I urge you brothers and sisters, friends, to put away the desires of the flesh and to seek His kingdom with everything you got. Stop returning to your old sins, your vomit, over and over again. Mop it up and walk away. For your trials and tribulations on this Earth are not over. Who will rescue you then?
Spend some time in His Word, reading your Bible. Spend some time in prayer and develop a relationship with Him. Love the Lord your God with your whole heart, mind, and soul – not the things of this world. You can slap a temporary band-aid on things, but you’ll have to keep putting that band-aid back on, over and over again because band-aids always fall off. The Lord WILL NEVER “fall off”. He will never leave you or forsake you! He is the permanent healing to all of your physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds. He is knocking on the door. Let Him in, for good, not just for a visit. He went to prepare a permanent place for you, therefore prepare a permanent place for Him in you.
John 15:4-8
4Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
The Lord needs to direct ALL of our steps.
Proverbs 16:9 A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
Isaiah 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
The LORD needs to give answer to every decision we have to make.
Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
The Lord leads and we follow. He will always lead us green pasture and still waters.
Psalm 23:2-3
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Psalm 31:3 For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.
