Fear of the Lord

The enemy loves to instill fear into you.  But, God’s perfect Love casts out all fear.  We are to fear nothing but the Lord.  No matter what is happening in the world or in your life, you have nothing to fear.  Repeatedly, throughout Scripture, we are told to Not Be Afraid.  So, ditch the horror movies which give the enemy an open door.  Ditch the news broadcasts which work for the enemy to instill fear.  (Just look at their logos – the eye of providence and the hera peacock).  Keep your mind focused on Jesus, on the Kingdom, on heavenly things, as commanded.

Fear only the Lord.

1 Samuel 12:24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart.

1 Samuel 15:24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

Psalm 34:9 O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Fear of the Lord is knowledge.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction

Proverbs 1:29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord

Proverbs 2:5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God

Isaiah 33:6 And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the Lord is his treasure.

Fear of the LORD is Wisdom and Understanding

Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

Isaiah 11:2  And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

Proverbs 1:7  Without the fear of God no teaching is of any avail. The knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Without Fear of the LORD,  you can’t learn anything of God or from God.  You will lack understanding, wisdom, and knowledge of spiritual things.

Knowledge brings peace unto you.

2 Peter 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

We must avoid evil, temptation to do evil, anything that drives our minds or bodies toward evil.  As God’s children, we are to strive to remain sinless.  Although we always fall short of the glory of God, it is still our goal to not succumb to sin.  When we divulge in sinful activities, we give up the peace that God gives us.

Isaiah 57:20  But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

You know the phrase, “There is no rest for the wicked.”  When you lie, cheat, steal, divulge in sexual immorality… any sinful act, you will toss and turn in bed.  Your mind will always be going.  You will develop panic and anxiety.  No peace will come to you.

Psalm 34:14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

You cannot defeat evil wickedness on your own.  You need God.

Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes:  fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

Proverbs 14:16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

You were never meant to fight on your own.  The LORD of Hosts will do battle for us, behold His mighty hand!

Exodus 14:13-14  And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.  The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

2 Chronicles 20:15-17

15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

16 To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.

Remember what happened when some of the Israelites decided to go up against the Amorites on their own, without God?  They were pulverized.

Deuteronomy 1:42-44

42 And the Lord said unto me, Say unto them. Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.

43 So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the Lord, and went presumptuously up into the hill.

44 And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.

It’s an interesting side note that these rebellious Israelites realized that because of their disobedience in not trusting the LORD, they had condemned themselves to living out their years in the wilderness.  First off, that’s what happens when we don’t trust the LORD, we live in a spiritual wilderness.  Secondly, the land they were barred from was a land of milk and honey.  Milk and Honey are known to be used in witchcraft.  Scripture says the giant Amorites chased them as bees do.  Bees have long been associated with witchcraft as well.  The Amorites worshipped gods of the desert and mountain, including the moon god sin.  The Israelites were in the desert and spoke with YHWH on Mount Sin-ai.  No coincidences.  The LORD made an open show of them. YHWH is the one True God, the Most High God.

Back to Fear of the Lord and Peace…

Malachi 2:4-7

4And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. 5My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name. 6The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity. 7For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

When you fear anything besides the LORD, you will caught up in snares, traps.  Sounds frightening!

Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare: but whoever puts his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

Lamentations 3:47 Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction.

But God, in His enduring mercy and lovingkindness, will save you from the fearful snare.

1 Peter 5:10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

1 Peter 1:6-7 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

The LORD will save you from the snare that put upon as a “trial of your faith”.  Why do you need a trial of your faith?  When might you need a trial of your faith?  When you are not trusting in the LORD.  When you are being fearful of anything other than YHWH.  He is our redeemer, our restorer, our provider, our healer, our savior, our God in whom we TRUST.

Putting 100% of our Trust in the LORD to heal us and restore us and provide for us can be so hard for us as humans.  We try to do everything ourselves.  We rely on professional physicians instead of the Great Physician.  We try to do so many things to please God instead of realizing we don’t need to do anything because Christ already did it for us.  We worry about food and clothes when the LORD is our provider.  He fed His children in the desert for 40 years and their clothes and shoes never even wore out.  What?  Do you think His hand is waxed short that He can’t take care you?  Forgive us, LORD!

Being fearful is being faithless.  It’s our lack of faith that gets us into the mess of these snares and welcomes the need for a trial of our faith.

Mark 4:40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?

Jesus clearly says here that they are being fearful because they have no faith.

Matthew 8:26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

Jesus was resting in His Father without fear.  Jesus was at peace in the midst of the storm.  He had complete faith.  He knew His Father.  Oh, we can say, “Well, that was Jesus.  He was God come in the flesh.  He had an unfair advantage there.”  Well, no He didn’t.  He set the example for us to follow.  He told us with faith the size of a mustard seed we can move mountains.  He said greater things will we do than He did.  He cannot lie.  And, there were others before Him who had that same faith.  Their names were Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

Daniel 3:12-29

12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.

14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?

15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.

17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

22 Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flames of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.

25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.

27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.

28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.

Oh, how I love this passage!  The Son of God with them in the fire.  Faith.

So, we know that knowledge, understanding, and wisdom come from fear of the LORD.  Fearing only the LORD is being faithful.  We touched on knowledge and understanding.  Let’s now touch on wisdom.  No amount of education and no amount of money can get you wisdom.  Wisdom is found with God.

Proverbs 16:16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding.

Job 28

1 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.

Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.

He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.

The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.

As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.

The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.

There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen:

The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.

He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.

10 He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.

11 He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.

12 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?

13 Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.

14 The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.

15 It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.

16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

17 The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.

18 No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.

19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.

22 Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.

23 God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.

24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;

25 To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.

26 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:

27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.

28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

When you put on the Armor of God and refrain from sin and evil, you have Wisdom.  Wisdom is more precious than anything on Earth.  No precious stone is worth its value.  Wisdom is knowledge and understanding which allows you to discern good from evil and to live by God’s instructions, finding favor in the LORD.

When you do not fear the LORD and you lack wisdom, you are a fool and desolation comes to you.  Just read Kings I and Kings II to see how those who ruled with a lack of fear of the LORD and wisdom were brought to ruin.  This is true for your life today.  Without living in the Word of God, under His instructions, with fear and wisdom, you will always fail and suffer distress, anguish, and lack of peace.

Father knows best.  He gave you a guide book for living in this hostile land.  Read it and apply it.

Proverbs 1

1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:

30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Christ says to abide in me and I in you.  Again, you cannot fight these battles alone.  Abide in Him.  Attain wisdom, knowledge, and understanding from fear of the LORD.  There you will find safety.  There you will find peace.  There you will be free from evil.  There you will not be afraid.

John 15:4-7 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.  If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.  If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

1 Samuel 22:23 Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard.

1 John 2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

Seek and find wisdom and you find life.

Proverbs 8

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.

She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.

16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:

21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

22 The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.

27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

It’s never too late.  The LORD is longsuffering wishes for none to perish.  Once you only fear The Lord, put on the Armor of God, repent and repel sin from your life, and accept Jesus as your savior, believing in the Gospel and letting God rule your life, you will be saved from that old sin that led your life in the past. You will be made anew!

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

As a new creature, Jesus has entered your heart.  The Holy Spirit has enveloped you.  You are now more empowered and equipped to avoid evil and sin.  You develop a disgust for the evil and sin you were enjoying before.  You hear God’s word command you and The Holy Spirit directing you.  You may cry, a lot.  You will be ashamed, and so you should be.  You will humble yourself before The Lord.  This is the child God wants!  You are excited and grateful for His salvation and at peace!  You now have understanding as to why certain words and actions are filled with darkness.  You can discern good from evil.  And, you want nothing but to please God in your life in all that you do.  You no longer go after your own heart.  You go after His.  You develop wisdom, knowledge, and understanding from your fear of the LORD.  You are now adopted into His family as a child of God.  You are part of a Holy Nation, a peculiar people, a Royal Priesthood.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

Romans 8:14-15 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.  For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind that you may know and approve what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Every step you take, every decision you make must be done prayerfully through the LORD.  His ways and His thoughts are high than ours.

James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Luke 12:16-21

16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

The man in this parable was reasoning within himself and not acknowledging God in his decisions and actions.  Do not lean on your own understanding.  The wisdom, knowledge, and understanding from fear of the LORD comes from the LORD.

Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

The LORD knows when you do not live through Him.

Proverbs 139:1-4

1 O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.

Your plans are likely to fail when they are not made through the LORD.

Proverbs 13:20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

We established that fear of the LORD is to have faith in Him.  Understand that faith is a gift from God.

Ephesians 2:1-8

1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Faith, a loving gift from God to all, overcomes the world.

1 John 5:3-5

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

John 16:3  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Revelation 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

When you have fear of The Lord and of nothing else, you have wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, that through your faith you will overcome the evil in this world because of CHRIST IN YOU.  Victory is already His.
