depression

depression(RePost from 2016) Depression is an evil monster. There really is not a better way to explain it. Whether you suffer from depression or you are close to a person who suffers from depression, you know how difficult it can be. The feelings of hopelessness are deep.

If you are close to someone who suffers from depression, it can take a tremendous toll on you. Sometimes words are said that hurt. Sometimes you just feel helpless. No matter what you say, it doesn’t help. If you say something good to counter the hopelessness, it is countered and not believed. If you say something agreeing with the hopelessness, it makes it worse. If you say nothing at all, the person suffering feels like they are talking to themselves and may get angry due to your lack of conversation with them. One of those, “darned if you do and darned if you don’t” situations.

Your loved one feels as though they are worthless. They say there is no hope. They say they hate their life. This hurts you deeply because you are a part of their life. It is very hard not to take it seriously and get your own feelings hurt. When your feelings get hurt, then everyone is hurt and the situation is double trouble. You just have to remember this is Satan talking, a spirit of heaviness upon your loved one, and not your loved one. God doesn’t give a spirit of heaviness. The devil does. All you can do is keep loving and showing your loved one the light, the truth, and the way. It is a difficult road. But, Satan must get behind you. You can beat him through the power of prayer.  Our weapons of warfare are spiritual, not carnal.  Be still with prayer and The Lord will fight for you.  He is might in battle and ALWAYS victorious.  Put on the whole Armor of God and pray constantly, never ceasing.

You are my lamp, O Lord; the Lord turns my darkness into light.

– 2 Samuel 22:29 NIV

When you are a victim of depression, the most important thing to remember is that this is coming from Satan and Satan is a liar. Everything you are being told in your head is a lie.  He is the father of lies and there is no truth in him. You are not worthless. There is hope. Everything will work out fine for those who love The Lord. It always does. Trust in God. Tell Satan to get behind you. He wants this to happen to you as he laughs and mocks. Do not let him get you. It is a lie. It is a lie. It is a lie. Why is Satan doing this to you? Is he trying to stop you from becoming something important? Does the LORD deem you as important to him in a special way and Satan is trying to stop it? Are you being tempted in order to learn? A trial? A test? Did he just grab you at your weakest and take hold because humans are precious to God and he wants to destroy them, including you? Is the voice telling you to blame God?

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

– Jeremiah 29: 11-13

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.

-Psalm 40:1-3
