generational curse

Does the Bible really say that I am cursed, and my family after me, for three to four generations from the wrongdoing of my ancestors?  Or, am I responsible for my own actions and words?  Did Jesus rectify this curse?  Let’s take a look.  In Exodus 34 we read:

Exodus 34:5-7

And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.

And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,

Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

Some people think this means that they are cursed for three to four generations because of the wrongdoings of their ancestors.  This really is just not the case, not if you are in Christ Jesus.

First, the passage reads that God came down and proclaimed His name.  He is merciful, gracious, good, true, forgiving, and longsuffering.  He will not clear the guilty as there are always repercussions for sin.  The sins we commit are because we are fallen.  From the day that Adam sinned, from Adam through all the generations after him, we all sin in this fallen world.  None of us are good, not one.

Yes, our children can pick up our bad habits if we continue to sin.  This sin could be carried on throughout several generations, such as foul language, drinking, etc.  Also, our actions and experiences have scientifically been proved to change our DNA.  Imagine what being involved in occultism does to your DNA – and then you pass that DNA on to your children and grandchildren!  These things are true; however we have all been sinning since the day of the curse when Adam and Eve fell in the garden.

After the LORD proclaims His name, Moses is given the Law.  He received the Ten Commandments. He was given the LORD’s Feast Days.  He was given the sacrificial laws to make atonement for sins.  The Israelites used to perform sin offerings to the LORD.

BUT… Guess what happened?  A new Adam is here!  His name is Jesus!  Jesus saves!!

Romans 5:12-19

12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Adam was our initial high priest.  He sinned and man was thrown out of the garden into this fallen world.  Our iniquities and sins have passed through the generations starting from Adam.  But, a new Adam is here.  A new high priest who replaces the sacrificial laws of animal sacrifices for sin because they were not able to stop sin in the first place.  A new high priest from the Order of Melchizadek who laid down His life as a sacrifice so we could have forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and our iniquities remembered no more.

Hebrews 10:10-22

10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21 And having an high priest over the house of God;

22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

It’s gone.  Through belief in the gospel that Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten son who died for us so that we may have forgiveness of sins cleanses our sins and our iniquities.  They are no more.  Jesus cleanses all sins and iniquities. Belief that He does not would make what He did for us not enough.

John 3:17-18

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

We are responsible for our belief and giving our lives to Jesus.  No one else is responsible for that.  If you’re not saved, it’s your own fault. The free gift is for everyone to accept.

Jeremiah 31:29-30

29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.

30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.

Right there.  It’s up to you to accept Jesus.  Repent.  Accept the Holy Spirit.  Pray.  It’s not your father’s fault.  It’s not your mother’s fault.  It’s not your grandfather’s fault, or anyone else’s fault.  You are responsible for your own salvation.  The children are not affected by the wrongdoings of their forefathers.  Everyone is responsible for their own iniquity.  Everyone will give an account for their actions and every idle word spoken.  Jesus paid the price for your sins, accept Him into your heart, into your life, and you are free from the chains and bondage of sin.

John 1:17

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Matthew 20:28

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Colossians 1:12

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

His blood covers all our sins.  He gave his life as a ransom.  He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  The price for our sins and iniquities is paid for, paid for all who believe on Him.  What He did was enough.  If you have sin, repent and ask forgiveness.  It’s through Jesus Christ that forgiveness of sins happens.

John 16:23

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

Fear of the LORD brings repentance.  Repentance brings the Holy Spirit who cannot abide with sin.  You need to put on the whole Armor of God.

Ephesians 6:10-12

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Luke 10:19

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

1 John 4:4

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

That’s the Holy Spirit he is talking about!

James 2:19

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

You have the power of the Holy Spirit within you.  Pray daily and repent, keeping the Spirit with you and walking daily in the Spirit (not in the flesh), ask for forgiveness of sins, and you will enjoy the fruits of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Matthew 10:34

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

That’s the sword of the Spirit!  When Jesus ascended He prayed the Father to send the Holy Spirit to us.

Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Pray for release of all generational curses from your ancestral line.  Plead the blood of Jesus over your ancestral line all the way to the DNA level breaking the power of iniquity.   You are no longer from that bloodline.  You are born again, made anew, a new creation in Christ Jesus!  Jesus did that for us on the cross.  You are no longer under that curse.  Remember to pray as commanded as some things hinder our prayers.

Matthew 6:6

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Mark 11:25

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Matthew 21:22

And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Mary Lou Lake has a wonderful prayer available to all for Release from Generational Curses

Father, I ask You to forgive all of the sins of our ancestors.  I ask You to cover our bloodlines all the way to the DNA level with the blood of Jesus, and I ask You to send the blood of Jesus over the spiritual lines connecting us to those that we share DNA with, blocking any familiar spirits coming to us.  We declare that Jesus paid the price for us to be free of every generational curse, and we take our authority over all the power of the enemy according to Luke 10:19 and stand upon Matthew 16:19 that what we bind on Earth will be bound in Heaven and what we Loose on Earth will be loosed in Heaven.  We bind every familiar spirit and generational spirit that has attached to our family because of the iniquity on our bloodlines, and we command them to leave us, in Jesus’ name.  We loose the power of the Kingdom of God within us and around us, and we ask for restoration of all that Satan has stolen through these generational doorways (including our health, resources, joy, and peace), in Jesus’ name.
