holy spirit

Part 9 of our Holy Spirit series focuses on Spiritual Senses. We believe this will be an 18-Part Series in which you’ll discover who The Holy Spirit is and what He does. Many attributes are given to The Holy Spirit throughout Scripture. He is not a force. He is a person. He is a member of the Trinity, a part of YHWH. He is referred to as a “he”. In Parts 1-9 of this series, we featured His part in creating, recreating, convicting, teaching, bringing us peace through hope, witnessing Jesus as God in the flesh, creating a clean heart, connecting the churchdwelling inside you, and how He grieves.   Now, let’s look at how He gives you spiritual senses.

I’m only going to discuss one passage in this article about how the Holy Spirit gives you spiritual senses.  I feel it encompasses all the points that need to be made.  So, let’s get right to it and take a look at Daniel, who had the Holy Spirit with him.

Daniel 5

10 The queen, because of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banqueting hall, and the queen declared, “O king, live forever! Let not your thoughts alarm you or your color change.

11 There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. In the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him, and King Nebuchadnezzar, your father—your father the king—made him chief of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and astrologers,

12 because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.”

This is just an incredible passage showcasing all the Holy Spirit works in a person.  The passage clearly states that Daniel had the Holy Spirit with him.  Obviously, we all know that from Daniel’s entire story, but the queen states, “There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods.”  Of course, the queen get it wrong.  Daniel does not have the spirit of the “holy gods” in him.  He has the one and only “Holy Spirit” from God in him, The Ruach Ha Kodesh, The Holy Ghost, The Spirit of Truth, The Comforter, of the Most High God, YHWH.

Next we read that because the Holy Spirit is within Daniel, Daniel has light, understanding, and wisdom.  Of course, he does!  We’ve covered this before.  It’s the Holy Spirit that gives us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding and helps us interpret that Scriptures and teaches us all things.  With all your getting get Wisdom!  You must be born again into the Spirit in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

And with that, we see all the marvelous gifts Daniel has because of his profound wisdom gifted unto him by the Holy Spirit:  an excellent spirit, knowledge, dream interpretation, explanation of riddles, and problem solving abilities.  Wow!  When we are told that we should be transformed by the renewing of our minds, it seems we aren’t just talking about the way we think and look at the world in a spiritual sense, but also how our minds will be renewed with incredible gifts based upon how the Spirit distributed them among us at His will.  Incredible!  We will talk about gifts in another Part of this Series.  We aren’t just talking about gifts here, though.  We do see interpretation of dreams, but we also read about riddles and problems solving.  Daniel seems to have been a unique intellectual, a genius of his day.

Think of your five senses.  The Holy Spirit allows us to see spiritually and recognize evil.  Jesus said many times that those who had ears to hear, let them hear.  Are your ears in tune to the Spirit?  What about your nose?  Do you smell trouble?  Is your body a living sacrifice as a sweet smelling savour to the LORD?  Can you taste and see that the LORD is good?  Do you keep your tongue and mouth to yourself; therefore, keeping yourself out of trouble?  Do you die to the flesh and walk in the Spirit?  Do you touch the things forbidden by the LORD?  Do you produce Fruit of the Spirit?
